Last month, the C&B Better Initiative came together to hear from three local non-profits and the impact they’re making on our community. After listening to meaningful stories, participants chose to grant the Urban Bicycle Food Mission (Dubuque) with a $12,500 donation that will fund this organization for an entire year!
The mission of UBFM is to provide radical compassion on bicycles to those in need, one burrito at a time. They are 100% volunteer-based with a variety of backgrounds, but they came together by pairing their passions of cycling and serving others. UBFM offers meals to anyone in need on Sunday evenings and with our donation, they’ll be able to serve 10,000+ meals to local residents who need them most. Food is made fresh and served at 4 locations in the downtown Dubuque area, and they also seek out individuals they encounter to ensure they've had a meal. Delivery can be done on bikes (weather-permitting) and also by car.
"This grant means a year of guaranteed service - we'll be able to serve over 10,000 meals to local individuals and families," said Amanda Reynolds, UBFM Board President. "We are so grateful for this opportunity and to be able to secure this funding is crucial for our small grassroots agency."
Teammates also heard from two other local organizations doing some incredible work for those in our community. See below for more information to learn more, donate now, and volunteering!
Community Solutions of Eastern Iowa - serving the local homeless population
St. Mark Youth Enrichment - serving local kids through afterschool/summer programming

About C&B Better Initiative
Started in 2021, C&B Better Initiative has grown to over 125 team members who gather quarterly to hear from community organizations and choose one as the grant recipient.
"I have always felt passionate about giving back," said Jackie Ronning, Vice President in Employee Benefits. "When I was a child, my family benefited from some non-for-profits in my community. I have never forgotten the impact that even a small gesture can mean, so I try to give back when I can. I also know that there are many organizations that I just don’t know about here in the Dubuque community. C&B Better has provided a really unique opportunity to learn about the needs in our community and also helps identify where our collective money can make the biggest impact."
Save the date for the Q3 meeting on October 29th. A calendar hold will be sent out in the near future. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!
